Friends of Space Coast Ballet
A Brief History
Space Coast Ballet Guild began in April 2004. The formation meeting included Peggy Snead who agreed to be Acting President, Sue Smith, Acting VP, Diane Taylor, Acting Secretary, Deb Miller, Acting Treasurer and Pat Harbach agreed to handle Publicity. Assistance in executing By-laws and Standing Rules was given by Arleen Rice and Ilene Grieshaber.
By May 2004 the Guild extended an invitation to all involved with SCB and Melbourne Ballet Center to join as active members at $30 per member by means of a paper application. Associate Membership was later implemented.
Sherrie Fries headed Advertising and has been faithfully involved in that area to date. Gloria Kreutz-Harvin began our Newsletter. SCB Dancers appeared in public at the community room at Gannett Corporation and at the Melbourne Arts Festival that October as well as other community events.
Work began in earnest to support the first Nutcracker Ballet, sponsored by Melbourne Ballet Center. Teree Estcourt worked exceedingly hard on this effort using her computer skills and continued to contribute very generously of her time and talents.
Following the creation of the Space Coast Ballet Company in early 2005 the Guild received tax exempt status from the Federal and Florida governments and operates as an arm of the Space Coast Ballet Board of Directors.
Membership and volunteer support has continued to increase over the years as have the fundraising efforts, and public relation events in the community such as Festival of Trees and Suntree Country Club appearances and performances. Appreciation parties have been heland special needs groups from the community have benefited from attending dress rehearsal performances. Guild members have assisted in monitoring the backstage activities during all the performances of Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.
Under the able leadership of Terri Kizzort, Sheri Willingham, Stacey Reeder, Lisa Dougherty and others, the Guild continues to grow and support the Space Coast Ballet company and newly formed Space Coast Ballet Academy.

Nutcracker Performance Fundraising Underway – Volunteers and Participation Needed!
There’s excitement in the air as we prepare for our fall academy fundraisers. We need the help of our faithful volunteers to chair and assist on committees. Here’s a list of events where you can get involved:
- DATE TBD – Art Auction at The Brevard Zoo: we need donated art pieces and/or your time and talents to coordinate art classes for SCBA students who will create artwork that can be auctioned off at this unique event.
- OCT 31 – Krispie Kreme Kickoff: a fundraising chair for this successful yearly event is needed immediately! Check out the Krispie Kreme website for more information on what’s involved – such as passing out forms, collecting forms and money, picking up certificates approximately 2 weeks after event kickoff.
- NOV 15 – Candyland Tea at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club: volunteers are needed to coordinate and host a young ladies’ “tea” in an atmosphere of scrumptious goodies accompanied by candyland decor and costumed dancers. The tea will take place 1pm-3pm.
- BASKET RAFFLE AT THE NUTCRACKER: another successful yearly event that needs volunteers to collect monetary and item donations for baskets that will be raffled off at The Nutcracker performances.
If you can help in any way with these fundraising events, please e-mail SCBA at messenger@spacecoastballet.com. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance as we raise money in support of our dancers.
