About Space Coast Ballet

From gorgeous classical ballets that have captivated audiences for centuries to the latest masterpieces by today’s best choreographers, the SCB is committed to present its unique vision of live performance to the Space Coast community, sparing no detail to achieve perfection in every area of the production. SCB began in 2003 when former Kirov Ballet Dancers, Boris Chepelev and Janna Kirova moved to Brevard. SCB performs world-class productions at the venerable King Center and features orchestral accompaniment by the Brevard Symphony Orchestra.


Boris Chepelev
Founding Artistic Director / President

A native of Russia Boris Chepelev received his eight-year ballet trainning at the Voronegh Ballet Academy in 1983 (With Distinction). He was a Principal dancer with the Maly Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia before joining Kirov Ballet in 1989 and danced with the Company until 1994. During his performing career with Kirov Ballet Mr. Chepelev performed in cities throughout the world, including London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and Berlin. From 1994 until 2001 he was a principal dancer and teacher with several companies in Europe such as "Staats Theatre am Gertnerplatz" in Munich, Germany. In 2001 he co-founded the Melbourne Ballet Center (in 2003 renamed as Space Coast Ballet). Under his artistic direction, Space Coast Ballet has presented acclaimed performances of major full-length ballets including The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Spartacus and numerous mixed repertory performances.
In 2008, Mr. Chepelev co-founded the Space Coast International Dance Festival where in collaboration with Youth America Grand Prix (NY) at The International Ballet Gala 2008 stars of leading dance companies from around the world has shared the stage with students from dance schools thru out the United States and Canada.


Janna Kirova
Founding Artistic Director

was born in Russia and educated at the world famous Vaganova Ballet Academy. From 1989 she was a soloist in the Kirov Ballet Company. Janna performed numerous solo roles in productions of “Giselle”, “Swan Lake”, “The Nutcracker” and “Sleeping Beauty” and as a principal dancer with several companies in Europe. From 1999 till 2001 she was a guest teacher at the Stella Academy in Hamburg, Germany. In 2001 she co-founded Melbourne Ballet Center (in 2003 renamed as Space Coast Ballet). Under her direction Space Coast Ballet Academy has built an extraordinary record of achievement. Students of Space Coast Ballet Academy have attended and received scholarships to many of the most prestigious ballet schools in the U.S. including Alvin Ailey School (NY), Harid Conservatory and The Kirov Ballet Academy at Washington (DC).


Space Coast Ballet performances include roles danced by world-renowned stars of the ballet world.
